Australia has one of the worst records of animal extinction in the world. That’s why Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC), an independent, non-profit organisation, is dedicated to saving Australia’s endangered wildlife and their habitats.

Without organisations like AWC, practical conservation programs on a very large scale would be almost impossible to implement. That’s why Optus is excited to partner with AWC, so its scientists and land managers can keep working to save Australia’s endangered wildlife.

The first major project in the Optus and AWC partnership is protecting the Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby at the Buckaringa Wildlife Sanctuary in South Australia.

If you’d like to know how much you're helping to change the world then register for the Action Tracker. This handy little tool allows you to keep track of the Change the World actions you've completed, and is a great way to keep track of the changes you are making!

Every time you complete an action you can watch your overall total grow, or you might like to get a group of family and friends together and see what a difference you can make altogether. If you are a student, why not see if you can persuade your classmates to join in with you, or if you work, perhaps you could get your colleagues to all get involved.

This is a fantastic way to see the difference that you are making, and also how collectively we can make huge changes to the world around us!. more...

How can you turn a smelly old running shoe into a brand new basketball court? With Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe programme. Worn-out athletic shoes of any brand are collected at Nike’s four factory stores around the country. The shoes are then sorted and shipped free of charge to the US for processing. The product of this processing is called ‘Nike Grind’, which is then turned into sports surfaces.

Nike Australia worked closely with one of its community partners called Red Dust Role Models (RDRM) to help donate its first Reuse-A-Shoe basketball court to the community of Mutijulu, in Central Australia, an area desperate for sporting facilities. Reuse-A-Shoe has also provided a sustainable benefit for Nike’s involvement in RDRM, a program that uses the influence of elite athletes to support healthier lifestyles among disadvantaged kids in remote Australian communities. You can drop your smelly old shoes off at any of these locations, any day of the week.
